I’m 19-years-old and I’m Scared of the Movies…?

Yesterday I turned 19-years-old, really not that old, but still older than I’ve ever been before. Every year I face this sense of melancholy after being shocked at how close adulthood is approaching – it’s practically here now. It isn’t until a couple years later, through the ability of hindsight, that I come to realize how young I really was. When I turned 14, and I didn’t think that was really young until I was 17, and now that I’m 19, 17 seems really young as well. Maybe it’s my anxiety that results in me constantly worrying about how I will be ‘later’ and how I was ‘then’ rather than focusing on how I am ‘now’.

This time around my biggest fear about the days after September 2nd, 2017 is my ability to immerse in my favorite form of escapism, movies. At a young age, heroes like Harry Potter, Luke Skywalker, and even freaking Naruto – who were all older than me – lost me in their fictitious worlds, encouraged me to be kind-hearted, a hero, and most of all never give up. I couldn’t help be feel like my imagination and connection with fiction would weaken as I grow older, and it freaking scared the hell out of me. Stories and movies are my everything and I feel like, somehow, I’ll let go of them over time.

But today I say FUCK THAT!  I’ll only be 19-years-old 364 times until I fully depart being a teenageer and then it’s off to the twenties.  So this year, officially, I’m done with going through this feeling of pensive sadness and just learning to just live in the now and appreciate the blessing that is life. There is no reason to fear getting older. My imagination, as long as I live, will never fade away. And movies will always be movies. Happy belated to me!

2 Year Anniversary on WordPress!

It seems like every month this summer was a milestone here on 4therace. June saw my 3000th visitor and July was a record setting month for visitors, views and likes on my blog as well. Today I am happy to say that I have been a blogger on WordPress for exactly 2 years now!

4therace has also changed drastically in these 2 years. I’ve changed my theme twice and expanded the content of my site to include entries on, music, anxiety, politics and even started to write a couple of short stories.

I thought it’d be really fun to share the first post I wrote The Pessimist’s Optimistic Way to Obtain World Peace and my latest post Life Question #1.

My favorite short story I wrote Why Can’t They Hear Me Screaming?

And the most important post I ever wrote The Greatest Person in the World Sat Next to You

Once again, I want to thank all my followers and visitors who took the time to read the content I work really hard to create on 4therace!

July was a Record Setting Month on 4therace!

Wow! 577 Views. First off I would like to deeply thank every single person who took time out of their day to read the ramblings of an 18-year-old nerd. A lot of readers here on 4therace leave extremely enthusiastic and positive comments that build my confidence as both a person and aspiring writer. All my viewers encourage me to keep writing and, even if it may be implicitly, follow my dreams so I am deeply thankful to each and every one of you.

On top of this, I had a record setting month for visitors (385), likes (139), and comments (36)! These analytics aren’t jaw dropping but do show that that my audience is progressively increasing. I wish to be a long-term blogger, and perhaps even make this an occupation one day.

As of now, however, I’d just like to thank, once again, all those who took time read, like, comment and follow my blog!

Have a blessed week everyone!

Blog Milestone! 3000+ Views

Today I realized that my blog has reached over  3000 views, 3 030 to be exact, in the (nearly) 2 years it has been running! This is so incredible and I’m extremely thankful to all of those who took the time to read my posts. WordPress is a community that I have a deep love for. In the real world, people may often neglect the opinion’s of others based on their status – be it social or financial. Some may refuse to hear the words of others simply because of their race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and  or nationality. But in this digital world, everyone has a chance to speak up and share their thoughts. There are no boundaries. There is no prejudice. WordPress is a place where truly everyone is equal. We are all bloggers. We all started with 0 followers, 0 views, 0 likes and 0 comments. I am so grateful to be part of a community that, unknowingly, is so open, kind and motivating to one another. Thank you all for the views and I can’t wait for the journey ahead here on 4therace!

Fictitious Future Fridays #3

If you haven’t already, feel fread to read the Fictitious Future Fridays #2 in order to participate in this week’s……

Now that you’ve chosen whatever location that magic spark has taken you and you’ve selected your tour guide, it’s time to face a crossroad in your journey. Whether you want to explore the galaxy with Han and Chewie, I’m looking at you Michael J. Miller, or you  simply want to visit a snowy park at nighttime, like me, your journey is now asking you to make a decision. A sign which writes “road to success” directs you to turn right. Another sign which writes “don’t go right” directs you left. The navigator, your trusted person you chose to explore your world with you, urges you to go right. Which direction do you go?

My answer: Given that my navigator is my late grandmother, my gut would tell me to listen to her and go right. But given the ambiguity of the sign going left that literally tells me “don’t go right”, I’d want to go left. Why shouldn’t I go right? It promises me success so what can go wrong? What’s there? On the other hand, the leftwards sign tells me don’t go right but doesn’t promise me anything if I choose to go left!!!!! The paradox …..

Please feel free to leave your response below…..

Fictitious Future Fridays #2

If you haven’t already, feel free to read the last Fictitious Future Friday in order to participate in this week’s

The magic pink spark has taken you to the place you wished for last week. Not only does it have the ability to transport you across reality, space, and time but it also can tap into your conscious. In order to explore wherever it has taken you, the spark has selected someone that you know/knew to be your guide in this journey. Who is this person? Why do you think you have selected them.

My answer: I think it would be my late grandmother. I have slept with one of her bed sheets almost everyday since her passing (it’s been 7 years) and her spirit is somewhat a form of protection. She would be the perfect person to guide me in this journey….

Feel free to leave your response in the comments below…..

My Liebster Award [Thank You FlickBox]!

Thank You So Much FlickBox for nominating me for the Liebster Award! FlickBox is one of my favorite bloggers who writes on a subject that I often write on too, cinema. Before I answer the 11 questions created for FlickBox’s 11 nominees I recommend anyone and everyone to check out and follow FlickBox.

The rules of the Liebster Award are simple!

  • Thank those who nominated you
  • Nominate 11 other bloggers
  • Answer the 11 questions that those who nominated you created [for the 11 I nominated the questions are below]
  • Let those 11 know you nominated them
  • Create 11 Questions for your 11 nominees

FlickBox’s Questions Are:

1. What is your favourite horror movie ?

Not a huge fan of the genre but I would have to say The Cabin in the Woods [2011] directed by Drew Goddard. I love that movie.

2. If you could be a movie bad guy, which one would you be ?

Really tough question but I’d have to say Captain America in Captain America Civil War. In Civil War he is the good bad guy, he is doing the right thing but is technically the antagonists against the world governments and Team Iron Man. If I were Cap at the end of the day I’d still be marked as a rogue but I wouldn’t lose at the end [spoiler alert]!

3. Would you let a movie crew film in your house ?

Of course I would, as long as I got to see the production process.

4. What kind of movie would you like to star in ? Why ?

Any upcoming Star Wars movie. Why? Because the sets, as seen in The Force Awakens, would have so much authenticity and would feel so lively that it would be as if I were actually immersed in one of my favorite cinematic universes.

5. Which movie star should live forever ?

I’d say Robert De Niro.

6. Would you like to be an actor/actress ? Why or why not ?

At the moment no because I’d be way too self-conscience to see myself on screen + I do not like the sound of my voice.

7. Do you think movies have been developing technology or technology has been developing movies ?

I believe that it’s a bit of both. Technology such as virtual reality headsets are propelling cinema further, for example IMAX wanting to create VR cinemas. In other cases technology in film has an influence on real world tech. For example Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 inspired Apple and even Robert Zemeckis’s Back to the Future II inspired Nike, finally, to begin developing the self-lacing sneakers.

8. If you were to be an actor / actress, which director would you like to work with ? And actor ?

Probably Darren Aronofsky. Aronofsky is one of my favorite directors and his films have resonated so strongly with me. All of his films are extremely character driven and really immerse not only the actors but the audience into his stories. Being part of one of his worlds and getting lost in them with co-actors would be an amazing experience. As for  an actor I’d love to work with, probably Joseph Gordon Levitt and or Natalie Portman; they seem like really nice people.

9. Would you rather be in a movie, or be given $500.000 ?

I would rather be in a movie because my salary would be more than $500 and I get to part of the magic of cinema. I would love to be in a Star Wars movie as said in number 4.

10. Think of a boring movie you’ve seen. Is there a way to make it better ?

Not to say that the Revenant is boring but it was a bit slow. Don’t get me wrong DiCaprio’s performance was stellar and the cinematography of Emmanuel Lubezki and direction of Alejandro G. Inaritu created an absolutely gorgeous film. However, carrying the movie on Leo’s back for most of the film was a bit tiresome. One way to make it better could’ve been to create a more lyrical score.

11. Which movie has the best story ? Tell me about it.

Really tough question. There is no telling what the best story is, it may not be subjective but it’s incredibly difficult to decide. Some of the best stories are found in Science Fiction and Fantasy films such as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, you can also find great stories in Tarantino films such as Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained.  So I don’t give an expected response, I would like like to say that Princess Mononoke has one of the greatest stories. Even if you are not fond of anime, Princess Mononoke should be a truly engaging experience. At the core it is essentially a story between humans and animals over a forest but dig a little deeper and it’s a film with the strongest characters, a moving plot, an extremely lyrical score, strong themes on deforestation and the evil of humanity. From the first minutes to the very last seconds of the movies climatic battle, viewers will be completely lost in Hayao Miyazaki’s world of  Princess Mononoke.  PLEASE, PLEASE SEE IT!
