Comic Con 2017 Was Better Than Christmas: Here Are Some of My Favorite Trailers, News & Posters!

I wasn’t in San Diego, in fact I’m on the other side of the world in Uganda. Seriously check my location. Even though I am a million miles away I felt the nerd vibe. This weekend was filled with a whole of a lot of goosebumps, screams, and a constant “WHATT???!” from my mom every other minute whenever I yelled from excitement. Here are some of my favorite trailers and news coming out of SDCC 2017!

My Definitive Ranking of Every Marvel Cinematic Universe Movie (so far…) [UPDATED]

My favourite Christmas gift, without a doubt, was my Marvel Comics encyclopedia that gave the history to every character, fictional location, and alternate universe that has ever been created by the comic giant since the date of its publishing. This encyclopedia sparked my love for Marvel Comics and eventually my love for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Since the release of Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk back in ’08, we’ve gotten 16 movies that have introduced new characters from all over the galaxy. Now we’re looking towards a third and possible final Thor movie, the first ever Blank Panther movie and  the first entry in the two part Infinity War! Before I get a little too ahead of myself, I thought I should rank my favorite MCU films thus far. So here it is, my 16 favorite MCU films ranked from worst to best.

*Now including Spiderman: Homecoming

My Definitive Ranking of Every Marvel Cinematic Universe Movie (so far…)

My favourite Christmas gift, without a doubt, was my Marvel Comics encyclopedia that gave the history to every character, fictional location, and alternate universe that has ever been created by the comic giant to the date of its publishing. This encyclopedia sparked my love for Marvel Comics and eventually my love for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Since the release of Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk back in ’08, we’ve gotten 15 movies that have introduced new characters from all over the galaxy. This Friday, the universe will get a little bigger with the release of Spiderman: Homecoming,  the 16th entry into the MCU.  Based on the trailers, TV spots, and current word of mouth, Tom Holland’s Spiderman looks very promising; possibly the best cinematic portrayal of the character to date. Before I get a little ahead of myself, I thought I should rank my favorite MCU films thus far. So here it is, my 15 favorite MCU films ranked from worst to best.

Wonder Woman Review [Spoiler Free]

So far, superhero flicks this year are 3 for 3. Logan was such a refreshing and unique entry in to genre as was the hilarious, action packed, character driven and heart-warming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. which, contrary to popular opinion, I believe exceeded its predecessor. It took long enough, but finally June 2nd saw the release of the first ever female led superhero film Wonder Woman. Helmed by female director Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot as the eponymous hero, Wonder Woman is an incredibly empowering film that might just be the best superhero origin story since Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins.

The +116 Films I Watched in 2016

In 2016 I watched 116 movies, possibly more, making it the most amount of movies that I have watched in a single year (beating 2015 by 30+ films). This year, last year I should say now, I revisited some favorites, watched a few classics, rewatched some films that I loved as a kid and saw them in an entirely new light as an adolescent, and watched a bunch a movies for the very first time- some I loved, some I hated. I explored a handful of French films and got a glimpse of a couple indies. This list is truly diverse and filled with a bunch of gems that some may or may not know.  So fell free to explore my 2016 film watchlist……

Recognizing TV’s Strong Female Characters

16 years into the 21st century, 10 of those I can probably remember, it’s safe to say that this not the peak era for music or film (it just isn’t). However we undoubtedly  live in the Golden Age of television where directors can better define themselves as auteurs, where some shows’ writing has surpassed that of the average film, and where special effects are almost as strong as the big screen (honestly it’s really close now). The greatest thing to come out of modern television is possibly its ability to consistently represent minorities, in America that is, in a positive light. Instead of the typical white male protagonist, we have shows consisting of all Asian casts (Fresh Off the Boat), all black casts (Blackish) and ensemble shows where the cast is extremely diverse (Orange is the New Black). With this new wave of diversity we also see a growing evidence of strong-female characters. Thus I felt inclined, at least for this post, to share how the role of women is changing in modern television through a (unranked) list of my favorite actresses/ characters on the small screen.
